Hilo fashion designer Sig Zane at work on a textile design.

The Zane family of Hilo is a remarkable gene pool of talent. Dad Sig, Mom Nalani Kanakaole and son Kuha’o are all artists on many levels. Their art comes from a deeply spiritual and cultural place, which contributes to its power and longevity.

Now Honoluluans will be able to appreciate their work right here in our city as Interisland Terminal presents “ITO: Interisland Travelwrights.” All three family members will present an exhibition and pop-up shop of travel goods, fashion and art from June 2 through 12 in the Waikiki Parc Hotel.

Art inspired by Hawaii's unique Interisland Living.

Inspiration for the exhibition, “ITO,” comes from the idea of “Interisland Living.” As Sig explains it: “Hilo to Kaunakakai, between Lihu’e to Hana, or going to Lana’i and then to Honolulu, between islands are a distinct part of Hawaiian life as in the past and especially today.”

Kuha’o adds: “ITO is our point of origin! Home base, return to sender, the three-letter cluster that ends a mirage of airport codes on our return flight. ITO is the code, representing our ‘Point A’  –  Hilo, Hawaii.”

The pop-up shop will be open from June 2 through 12 during regular store hours: 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily at the Waikiki Parc Hotel, 2233 Helumoa Road.

Free, validated parking at the Waikiki Parc Hotel will be provided for all ITO visitors and event attendees.

In addition to the pop-up shop, there will be a series of events by each family member with special talk story evenings, as well as art unveilings. You can find the complete schedule online at http://www.interislandterminal.org
